Accepting New Clients in August

Britany Barnes

MSWi

My passion for social work is rooted in a belief that every being is worthy of dignity, love, and unconditional positive regard. I am dedicated to creating a safe space to explore ways to live more freely and authentically and am humbled to walk alongside clients as they navigate life in ways that align with their values. “…gentleness is stronger than severity, water is stronger than rock, love is stronger than force.” - Hermann Hesse.  To me this means that what appears “weak” on the surface—gentleness, flexibility, and love—is often what creates a more enduring and transformative strength and resilience.

My modalities of interest are CBT, DBT, mindfulness, and compassion-focused therapies, and I look forward to exploring approaches that best suit each client. Clients I am drawn to working with are those experiencing anxiety, faith/identity crises, postpartum depression/anxiety, serious mental illness, and chronic illness/disability.

My Story

I am a mother of three young children and feel most at peace when exploring nature and music with my family. I love to run, read, snow ski, and eat nachos in bed. Growing up I played mediocre bass in a family band and now enjoy watching my children rock out on their instruments together.

In my first career, I was a special educator for over a decade in public high schools in Utah. My bachelor’s and master’s degrees are in Special Education from Brigham Young University, and I am currently pursuing a Master of Social Work at Utah Valley University. A career change to social work comes from a desire to expand my efforts in social justice, healing, and self-determination beyond classroom settings.
